Gordon Parks to reimage Gordon Parks Back to Fort Scott 1950 photos

John Dobbins, local Fort Scott, KS resident and long-time tutor at Fort Scott Community College, has donated a bookcase from the Plaza-Hawkins school.

Marcia McCoy, photographer and longtime friend of Gordon Parks, has donated an iconic portrait of the celebrated Fort Scott native taken by his son, David, to the museum that bears his name.

Fort Scott native Gordon Parks was among a dozen photographers inducted by the Kansas Press Association into the Kansas Photojournalism Hall of Fame during a ceremony recently in Topeka.

Interactive Technology Expansion

The interactive display, which allows visitors to view photos, videos, interviews, music and more, will be available for use in the meeting room/lobby area of the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center during the annual Gordon Parks celebration Oct. 6-8, 2022.

The book is in conjunction with the recent "Gordon Parks: 'Homeward I Come'" exhibition at the Beach Museum of Art and presents new research about Parks, his relationship with his home state and how he used Kansas as a source of reference and inspiration.
