Commemorative Park where The Wayman Chapel African American Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church once stood. This will be a tribute to the historic church with the installation of informational signs with graphic images and text on the actual property location. Each sign will feature different aspects of the church such as the history, major timeline events, honoring the pastors of the church, showing its historical impact and connections with Gordon Parks, The Learning Tree Film, Frederick Douglas and Prof. E.J. Hawkins.  We also illustrate the impact it had with the community and members of the church. The signs will also a have a QR code for more follow up information.

The entrance of the church was on the corner of 3rd and Lowman, and the pulpit and choir seats were located toward the direct east end of the church.

The Gordon Parks Museum has artifacts on exhibit from the church to include: Two of the church's stain glass windows, an engraved with the letter “W” colored glass window plate, a large lighted cross, the church building corner stone, and two of the church pews and chair. We also have found other artifacts at the location such as watches, rings, toys some dated in the 1800’s.
